Ohaneze Ndigbo Urges Igbos To Support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

By Ruth Tene Natsa, Abuja

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has called on Igbos both at home and in the diaspora to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This is even as he stressed the need for Government at all levels to ensure that Igbos were treated fairly in all aspects

Speaking when the Igbo Community Assembly Abuja, led by its Chairman, Mr. Ositadinma Nwoye paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. Iwuanyanwu urged the Igbo Community who had planned a protest over the alleged illegal demolition of some buildings belonging to some Igbos in the Federal Capital Territory to halt their plans as he sought dialogue with the necessary authorities

According to Chief Iwuanyawu “During the election, we didn’t vote for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, but he has been declared the President by the Independent National Electoral Committee, INEC, the courts up to the Supreme level have declared him and as your leader, I declare that Igbos as good citizens of Nigeria will support him.

“We are going to support him because we want Nigeria to be a success. If Nigeria fails, the Igbos are going to suffer more than any tribe. If Nigeria were to be looked at as a corporate body, I think, we Igbos have more investments than any other tribe so if Nigeria has problems we will suffer.

As your leader, I say we will give the government every support to succeed and we also expect the government to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that what is due us is given to us, he added

Earlier, the Chairman of the Igbo Community Assembly Abuja, Mr. Nwoye had complained that an estate belonging to one Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu was allegedly demolished illegally and urged the Igbo Leader to intervene

Mr Nwoye said that the Igbos would continue to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the Country, as well as support the Present administration to succeed

In his response, the President general, recalling that Houses worth over N11b were demolished by the FCT Administration, said he had called on Prince Nicholas to bring along all necessary documents to help him follow up on the matter

“I have sent for Nicholas Ukachukwu a patriotic Nigerian who has served in parliament, he is also an industrialist who has invested in developing Abuja. There is no way anybody can talk about the development of Abuja without giving due credit to the Igbo entrepreneurs, such as Nicholas Ukachukwu who must be remembered

“He came in years ago when Abuja was only one /two streets and worked very hard to develop the place, so when I invited him and he complained I was moved with compassion because I know he is a person who sincerely loves Nigeria and believes in the unity of this country

“Anybody ready to invest billions of naira in Abuja must be doing it because he believes in Nigeria, and he has worked hard for Nigeria and that’s why it is worrying me. In Igbo land, Nicholas is one of the supporters of Eze Ndiigbo.

At the time Igbos came to Abuja, many other Nigerians were not willing to come, Igbos came and as patriotic Nigerians embarked on the development of Abuja. They bought and acquired properties. Some other people came and bought and sold to Igbos. So they didn’t just get Allocations, they also bought from others and as patriotic Nigerians embarked on development, bought properties.

I was sworn in on April 30, 2023, as the President General of Eze Ndiigbo and I must protect the interests of the Igbos while ensuring that Igbos act within the limit of the Nigerian constitution. I am not going to support any Igbo person who does wrong but from the experience I have had so far, there are areas where Igbos are hated for no just cause and profiled for no just cause and as your leader, I will not just fold my hands but make sure that Igbos get their rights.

The Chief appealed to the gathering to cancel the deadline they had given to avert violence and allow him to intervene and afterwards meet with them again.“ So suspend any demonstration or action till I have exhausted all” he pleaded
